Elle contient deux hormones féminines de synthèse : le désogestrel (un progestatif) et l'éthinylœstradiol (un œstrogène). Locipil agit en inhibant l'ovulation (libération d'un ovule) et en modifiant la glaire cervicale pour empêcher la fécondation. Au-delà de la contraception, il aide à régulariser les cycles menstruels et à traiter les règles irrégulières et douloureuses (dysménorrhée). Il est généralement pris chaque jour pendant 21 jours, en commençant le premier jour du cycle menstruel, suivis de 7 jours d'arrêt, bien que les instructions puissent varier.
