Chez l'adulte, il est utilisé pour traiter le cancer du rein avancé et le cancer de la thyroïde différencié localement avancé ou métastatique. Il est également utilisé pour traiter le cancer du foie lorsque le sorafénib (médicament anticancéreux) ne fonctionne plus. Habituellement, ce médicament est administré en association avec le nivolumab pour le cancer du rein avancé. Il n'est pas recommandé chez les personnes de moins de 18 ans.
