Menactra Vaccine contains an active component called meningococcal polysaccharide Diphtheria Toxoid Conjugate. This vaccine is an active immunizing agent used to prevent meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis groups A, C, Y, and W–135, but it is not effective against N meningitidis serogroup B. Menactra injection is contraindicated for persons who are diagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS); it may increase the risk of GBS. Consult your doctor if you are allergic to the drug and its other ingredients. The Menactra shot is not effective in people with low immune response or certain conditions, and those with complement deficiencies or taking certain medications are at higher risk for meningococcal disease even after vaccination with the medicine and immunosuppressive therapies may reduce the immune response to vaccines.
